Marching Ahead Toward Spring!

Marching Ahead Toward Spring!

March 01, 2023

Welcome to March! It’s no secret that many of us are anxiously awaiting the first day of spring on March 20th, along with daylight saving time starting on 3/12. Beginning this month, we’ll start to see extended hours of sunlight and a bump in warmer temperatures (hopefully). It’s also exciting to see a splash of color from early bloomers like daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths.

Here's an interesting factoid about March: At one point many years ago, March was the FIRST month of the year, that is until January and February were added to the calendar many years later. They shoved March into third position around 450 BCE.

Speaking of daylight saving time, have you heard of the Sunshine Protection Act? It is a piece of legislation intended to abolish the spring/fall disruptive clock changes in favor of a permanent daylight saving time. Although the Senate passed the bill in March 2022, it stalled in the House and has gone no further. Meanwhile, more states have proposed their own time-change bills, which is likely to cause even more confusion! In the words of the popular band Chicago, "Does anybody really know what time it is?"

March is Women’s History Month, a time when we celebrate the achievements and contributions women have made throughout American history. It’s a great time to recognize, salute, and thank the females in our lives who have paved the way or made an impact.

On March 17th, if you plan to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a green beer or plate of corned beef and cabbage, here’s a head-scratcher for you to consider: Why is it you never see a lady leprechaun? The answer is, they don’t exist (or at least there’s been no record of female leprechauns)! Considered to be part of the fairy family, some say that leprechauns are the rejected fairies who have been ousted by the fairy community (which explains why they’re usually described as grouchy creatures who are prone to mischief).

Spring is a great time of year to get your finances in order. If you’ve been struggling to put a plan in place, or are seeking a second opinion to make sure you’re headed in the right direction, give us a call. We’d love to hear from you. Sending warm wishes for a happy new spring in your step this March. And don’t forget to set your clocks ahead on the 12th!
